Gabala region Open Championship on free style wrestling dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held.

Gabala region Open Championship on free style wrestling among teenagers, which was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was held with organizational support of Gabala region Youth and Sports Department. The contest took place on May 05, 2018 at Gabala Olympic Sports Complex. More than 100 athletes from Gabala, Mingachevir, Aghdash, Goychay and Ujar regions took part in the contest. The aim of the contest was to make public the works implemented and the reforms made in sports like in all spheres by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev for the sake of development of modern Azerbaijan, as well as to achieve the popularity of sports in the region, improve the competition experience and mastership in teenagers and young athletes, and to promote free style wrestling among teenagers. At the opening ceremony of the championship, chief of Youth and Sports Department Fakhri Soltanov made a speech and provided information about the purpose and duties of the contest, spoke about the works implemented by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in development of sports. Speaking about the strengthening of material-technical base of sports in Gabala region like in whole republic, about the care and attention provided by the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev towards the athletes in his speech, F.Soltanov wished successes to the contestants. After the opening ceremony, the stage was given to the wrestlers starting competition for championship. More than 100 teenagers in two age groups and 16 weight rates (23-26-29-32-35-38-42-46-50-54-58-63-69-76-80, +85 kg) tested their strengths. The competition was assigned to the judge panel approved by the Youth and Sports Department under the rules of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation. The winners awarding ceremony of the championship took place in Gabala region Heydar Aliyev Center. Firstly the participants of the competition viewed the exposition hole covering the life and activity of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and then the event continued. At the awarding ceremony, diplomas and medals of Youth and Sports Department were presented to the athletes (taking I, II, III places), who won at the end of the tense competition for championship.
